A Storm Lake woman was charged with child endangerment after police Tuesday afternoon were dispatched to the 700 block of West Ninth Street to investigate a found child.
Police were told a two-year-old child was found walking unattended, wearing only pajamas and flip flops. Witnesses estimated the child had been outside for about 15 minutes. Police requested an ambulance be dispatched to the scene to check the child for exposure issues, however the child appeared to be healthy.
Police determined the child lived at 705-A West Ninth Street and found the child’s mother sleeping at the residence. The child’s father arrived home and the child was placed in the father’s custody.
Police charged the mother… 25-year-old Nilka Camacho Vargas… with child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor. She was jailed on a two-thousand dollar bond. A report was filed with the Iowa Department of Human Services. Police were assisted at the scene by the Buena Vista County Paramedics.
