Four Storm Lake juveniles have been charged after a three-month investigation into a series of burglaries, attempted burglaries, and vandalisms at or near public event venues in Storm Lake.
Thursday, police charged a 17-year-old male with seven counts of third-degree burglary and one count of second-degree criminal mischief, all class “D” felonies… and two counts of third-degree attempted burglary, an aggravated misdemeanor.
A second 17-year-old male was charged with seven counts of third-degree burglary and two counts of third-degree attempted burglary.
A 16-year-old male was charged with five counts of third-degree burglary and two counts of third-degree attempted burglary. A second 16-year-old boy was charged with three counts of third-degree burglary and one count of second-degree criminal mischief. All four were taken to the youth detention facility in Cherokee pending appearances in juvenile court.
Police say the charges involve four burglaries or attempted burglaries to the Field of Dreams concession stand… two burglaries to the fieldhouse at the Storm Lake High School football stadium… a burglary to the parks department building in Chautauqua Park… and a burglary to a storage shed at the Memorial Ball Field. They are also accused of cutting down a tree and damaging a wooden sculpture in Sunset Park and cutting down a tree in Awaysis Park.
Police say the investigation is continuing and additional arrests are anticipated.
