A Fort Dodge man was shot after breaking into an apartment in Sac City early Wednesday morning.
The Sac City Police Department arrived at the scene around 4am on Wednesday. An investigation determined that Bendji Joseph of Fort Dodge forcibly entered Apartment #1 at 211 South 5th Street without permission, with the intent to commit a serious or aggravated assault. Upon the entry of Joseph, one of the occupants of the apartment, Miguel Alcantara, acted in self-defense and fired two shots at Joseph with a nine-millimeter pistol, striking Joseph twice.
Joseph was transported to Loring Hospital in Sac City, and was later life-flighted to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, where he is believed to be in stable condition.
Joseph has been charged with Third Degree Burglary, a class D felony…and First Degree Burglary, a class B felony.
Assisting at the scene were the Lake View Police Department, the Sac County Sheriff’s Office, and the Sac County Attorney’s Office.
The investigation is ongoing.
