A Storm Lake man was arrested following a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of West Milwaukee Avenue and Ontario Street.
Storm Lake Police were dispatched to the scene at approximately 11:15 on Monday morning. Responding officers were advised that three vehicles were involved in the collision, and one of the vehicles, a red 2001 Honda, fled from the scene northbound on Ontario Street. Responding officers located the vehicle, which allegedly fled from the scene, and parked behind a garage at 601C West 8th Street. The driver, 52-year-old Darwin Amon of Storm Lake, was detained for questioning.
An investigation at the accident scene alleges that Amon was northbound on Ontario Street in his Honda. Amon failed to yield to traffic on Milwaukee Avenue, at which time he continued northbound through the intersection, colliding with an eastbound 2000 Jeep Cherokee operated by 25-year-old Jose Garcia of Storm Lake. Amon’s vehicle spun out of control and struck a southbound 2011 Ford Explorer operated by 70-year-old Karen Ames of Storm Lake. Amon then continued northbound on Ontario Street fleeing from the accident scene.
Amon’s vehicle sustained four-thousand dollars in damage. Garcia and Ames’ vehicle’s both sustained approximately two-thousand dollars in damage. No injuries were reported.
Police allege that Amon was intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with OWI, a serious misdemeanor…No Driver’s License, No Insurance, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Failure to Yield the Right of Way, all simple misdemeanors. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a one-thousand dollar bond.
