Storm Lake Woman Injured in Accident

A Storm Lake woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident that occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of C-65 and M-27 near Hanover.
According to Buena Vista County Sheriff Kory Elston, the Communication Center received a 9-1-1 call reporting the accident shortly before 2:30pm. The call was received from On Star from one of the vehicles involved. A second caller reported that one of the drivers appeared to be seriously injured. The Alta Fire Department and First Responders were dispatched to the scene, along with the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Paramedics, and the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office.
It was determined that Josefina Rosales of Storm Lake was operating a 2002 Ford F-150 truck, and had been southbound on M-27. The second vehicle involved was operated by Betsy Mefferd of Battle Creek. Mefferd was operating a 2018 Chevy Equinox. Mefferd was going west on C-65 when the accident occurred.
The Sheriff’s Office determined that Rosales had stopped at the stop sign at M-27 and C-65. Rosales then pulled out onto C-65, and was struck by Mefferd’s vehicle, causing Rosales’ vehicle to roll onto its top, coming to rest partially on the roadway. Mefferd was not required to stop.
Rosales was transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries. Mefferd was treated at the scene and released. Charges are pending.
