The Storm Lake School Board Wednesday night reviewed the annual progress report and annual financial report.
Curriculum director Tina Gress said the district was able to meet many of their goals for the 2016-17 school year… including elementary proficiency in reading, math, science, and social studies. She noted Storm Lake schools have more students open enrolled into the district than it has lost to open enrollment out of the district. Last year, 102 students from other districts were attending class in Storm Lake, while 60 went out of the district.
Business manager Trudy Pedersen said the district cost per pupil last year was 6,591-dollars, with total expenditures from the general fund of 27.1-million dollars. Salaries and benefits made up 81-percent of the general fund expenditures. The total property tax levy was $15.26 per thousand dollar valuation, down 54-cents from the previous year.
Pedersen says the district still owes 5.6-million dollars on the elementary school and 17.9-million in principle and interest on the high school renovation and auditorium project.
