SL Applies For Trees Forever Grant

Storm Lake is seeking funds to plant 50 trees in the community.

This week, the city council approved submitting a grant application for nine-thousand dollars to Alliant Energy’s Trees Forever grant program. Assistant city manager David Derragon says the city is applying for trees to be planted in three locations… 15 trees at Russell Park, located at Fifth and Russell… 15 trees at a park development at Tenth and Ontario Street… and 20 trees at the golf course.

He says the city’s nine-thousand dollar grant application will allow the purchase of 50 trees at an average cost of 180-dollars per tree. If funded, the city will supply stakes, mulch, and tree-tie material… with labor done by city staff and community volunteers.
