Trial for a Denison man charged in connection with the drowning death of a girl in January begins Tuesday with jury selection.
Twenty-six year-old Ramon Hernandez is charged with vehicular homicide and three counts of distribution of a controlled substance to a minor, all class “B” felonies… delivery or possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a class “D” felony… and four counts of providing alcohol to a minor, a serious misdemeanor.
Hernandez is accused of driving a car on January 19th containing four teenage passengers. The car left the road… crossed two fields and a railroad track… then went into the Boyer River. One passenger was able to get out of the car and call for help. Three people were pulled from the submerged vehicle by sheriff’s deputies.
The remains of 15 year old Yoana Acosta were recovered from the river a week after the accident, more than two miles downstream from the site of the accident.
