The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will be stocking trout in 17 ponds next month, including one in Clay County.
The DNR will release between one- and two-thousand rainbow trout, with a release November 18th at 12 Noon at Scharnberg Pond near Spencer.
DNR fisheries bureau chief Joe Larscheid says trout are released this time of the year when the cooler water temperatures can better support the fish. He says it offers a special opportunity for those not able to travel to northeast Iowa to discover trout fishing.
Anglers will need a valid fishing license and pay the trout fee in order to possess trout. The daily limit is five trout per licensed angler with a possession limit of 10. Children 15 or under can fish for trout with a properly licensed adult, however they must also purchase the trout fee, and they must limit their catch to one daily.
