A Storm Lake woman was charged with child endangerment after police about 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning were dispatched to Lake and Milwaukee Avenue for a welfare check on a very small child observed walking a dog.
Officers were told a vehicle appeared to be picking the child up at the time of the call. Police met with 25-year-old Micaela Para Rosales of Storm Lake, who said she was babysitting the two-year-old child. Police allege she left the child sleeping at the residence when she was called and asked to pick the child’s mother up at a local night club.
Apparently the child woke up, unlocked the front door, and left with the dog. Para Rosales and the mother saw the child and the dog as they were returning from the night club. The child was uninjured.
Police charged Para Rosales with child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor. She was jailed on a two-thousand dollar bond. A report was filed with the Iowa Department of Human Services.
