Police Blotter

On the evening of Saturday, October 7, 2017 at approximately 7:36pm the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 714 Russell Street in reference to a vandalism.
Upon arrival of police they met with the victims who alleged that a Jesse Peter, age 28 of Storm Lake who was staying with the reporting parties had become intoxicated the night before and damaged a television and pictures in the residence. The reporting parties ordered Peter to leave the residence in the next 48 hours at which time the reporting parties departed from their home until Peter sobered up. Upon return to the residence the reporting parties observed additional damage to windows, walls and appliances exceeding $1000.00 in value. Peter was gone at the time of their return.
At approximately 10:30pm on Saturday evening officers returned to the residence where they located Peter and arrested him. Peter was charged with Criminal Mischief 5th Degree (simple misdemeanor) and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 bond.
Additional charges are pending in the investigation.

On the afternoon of Saturday, October 7, 2017 at approximately 1:26pm the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to 111 East 10th Street in reference to an automated fire alarm.
Upon arrival of fire fighters they determined that cooking smoke on the third floor activated the alarm system.
There was no fire and no damage.
The fire department was on scene for approximately 10 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department.

On September 30 at approximately 6:38pm, at 507 Seneca St. in Storm Lake, a vehicle owned by Gloria Tavares of Grand Island, NE, was struck by an unknown vehicle. Total damages were estimated at $1000.

On September 27 at approximately 3:49pm, at the 1300 Block of Lake Ave. in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Karina Vaquero of Spencer, IA, was involved in an accident with a vehicle driven by Darrell Paulsen of Cherokee, IA. The two cars collided causing damages estimated at $1000.

On September 30 a theft was reported in Storm Lake. Total value of items reported missing were estimated at $20.

On September 25 a theft was reported in Storm Lake. Total value of items reported missing were estimated at $180.

On September 24 a vandalism was reported in Storm Lake. Total damages were estimated at $200.

On October 7 at approximately 2:50pm, at 1009 E. Richland St. in Storm Lake, an unknown vehicle struck a parked car owned by Tagesse Woeme. Total damages were estimated at $1400.

On October 7 at approximately 4:20pm, at the 1500 block of Lake Ave. in Strom Lake, a vehicle driven by Michael Erickson of Storm Lake, was involved in an accident with a vehicle driven by Waylon Stark of Storm Lake. The two vehicles collided causing total damages estimated at $1000. Stark was cited for Failure To Stop In Assured Clear Distance.
