Four Injured In Pocahontas County Accident

The Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office has released information on a personal injury accident involving a Storm Lake woman that occurred last week.

According to the department, the accident happened on C-49 west of highway four on Sunday, September 24th. Forty-nine year-old Graciela Vrieze of Storm Lake was eastbound and attempted to pass a car driven by 101-year-old Berniece Hiatt of Pocahontas. At the same time, Hiatt made a left turn into a farm driveway. Vrieze swerved to avoid hitting Hiatt and partially went into the ditch. Vrieze then skidded back across the roadway, entered the south ditch, and hit an embankment.

Vrieze and three passengers were taken by ambulance to the Pocahontas Hospital for treatment of injuries received in the accident.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Pocahontas Fire and Police Departments.
