An application for a zoning change to allow a new apartment complex in Storm Lake has been withdrawn… and a planned public hearing during Monday’s city council meeting will likely not be held.
Property owned by the Prichard family, located north of East Fourth Street, was being considered for an apartment complex. A request to rezone the property from R-1 low density residential to R-4 high density residential was reviewed recently by the Planning and Zoning Commission. After considerable public comment against the proposal, the P-and-Z took no action on August 31st due to a lack of a quorum.
On the agenda for this Monday’s meeting, a notice was added to the agenda item, saying the application has been withdrawn, and the public hearing likely will not be held.
The proposed 8.4-million dollar, 60-unit apartment complex would have required state Low Income Housing Tax Credits for it to proceed. The rezoning request was contingent on the tax credits being approved by the state.
