On Wednesday, September 20, 2017 the Storm Lake Police Department took a report in reference to the theft of utilities.
Police were advised by the reporting party and observed that a water hose had allegedly been connected to a residence at 407 West 2nd Street and was running to a residence located at 300 Ontario Street. Police confirmed that all utilities had been shut off at the 300 Ontario Street address for approximately one month. The hose was reportedly hooked up to the West 2nd Street residence without the owner’s knowledge or permission.
Police identified the resident at 300 Ontario Street as Hugo Cabrera Del La Torre, age 42 of Storm Lake.
Following an investigation the SLPD charged Cabrera with Theft 5th Degree (simple misdemeanor) on September 25, 2017. He was served with the charges at the Buena Vista County Jail where he was being held on unrelated charges.
On the afternoon of Monday, September 25, 2017 at approximately 5:30pm the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Storm Lake Wal-Mart Store in reference to a theft.
Upon arrival of police they met with store staff who alleged that a 16 year old male and a 17 year old male both of Storm Lake attempted to remove approximately $15.00 in merchandise each from the store without paying for the items.
Following an investigation the SLPD charged both juveniles with Theft 5th Degree (simple misdemeanor). Both juveniles were processed and released to their parents pending a court date in Juvenile Court.
