After having their 13 game regular season winning streak snapped the week before the Storm Lake football team started quickly scoring 21 first quarter points en route to a 47-14 over win over Humboldt much to the delight of the homecoming crowd in Storm Lake.
Brayden Hoops scored four rushing touchdowns and returned a fumble for another and led the team in tackles again as the green and white built a 34-0 lead at the half. Storm Lake outgained Humboldt 226 yards to 54 in the first half.
Lamar Mulgae started the scoring with a 28 yard run on the Tornadoes first possession, Hoops would add a three yard score and his fumble return and it was 21-0 at the end of the first. Hoops would then add T-D runs of three and two yards in the 2nd quarter for the 34-0 lead at the break. His one yard touchdown run capped off a 12 play 80 yard T-D drive to start the 2nd half to make the score 40-0. With the game in hand Luxes Inthamath would tack on a one yard run and make the score 47-0. The Wildcats scored two late touchdowns on a 53 yard run and a 48 yard pass.
The Tornadoes had 460 yards of offense compared to the Wildcats 190. The Tornadoes had 26 first downs compared to Humboldt’s five. Kevin Duque was 8-of-13 for 148 yards. Hoops now has 12 rushing touchdowns on the season.
Humboldt is now 2-3, 1-2 in the district. Storm Lake is now 4-1, 2-1 in the district and will play next Friday at LeMars.
