The DOT plans to resurface highway 71 in Buena Vista County from highway three to highway ten south of Sioux Rapids.
County engineer Bret Wilkinson says he’s received a pre-construction agreement from the DOT on the project, which is planned for next summer. He says the DOT plans to use M-44 as a detour. Also next summer, the county plans a resurfacing project on M-50, so they probably won’t be able to use highway 71 as the detour when that project is underway.
Wilkinson Tuesday told the Board of Supervisors he’s working up the final bill to sent the pipeline contractor to pay for road damages when the Dakota Access Pipeline was installed. He says there are three places where asphalt needs to be repaired, but there’s less damage than was expected. County crews will do some shoulder work and seeding, which will be billed to the pipeline contractor.
