Scattered harvest activity got underway in Iowa last week, although widespread harvest action is still a week or two away.
The latest crop progress report says 30 percent of Iowa’s corn crop had reached maturity as of Sunday, six days behind average. In northwest Iowa, 28-percent of the crop had reached maturity as of Sunday.
Thirty-one percent of soybeans were dropping leaves, one day behind average. In northwest Iowa, it was 33-percent. The good to excellent condition ratings for corn and soybeans both declined slightly—down to 59 percent for corn and 58 percent for soybeans.
Topsoil moisture in northwest Iowa is rated nine-percent very short… 14-percent short… and 77-percent adequate. Last week, there were 5.8 days suitable for field work.
