-The Storm Lake Girls’ Swim Team took to the water Saturday in their first full meet of the season. The meet was a prelim/final format and hosted 2 top 15 teams, 2 more in the top 20 as well as several other strong teams. The Tornadoes placed 8th of the ten teams competing with their total of 102 points. Cedar Falls won the meet with 471.5 points, Lewis Central was 2nd with 328, Fort Dodge tallied 301.5 for 3rd. Linn-Mar was 4th with 233, Carroll took 5th at 230.5. Spencer was at 6th with 183 points, Sioux City Metro had 159.5 for 7th and in 9th was Perry with 68 and 10th was Algona with 52.
Storm Lake qualified for the finals in seven of the 11 events and were in the championship finals(top 8 times from prelims) in 3 of those seven. Eleven of the 16 girls competing in prelims got to swim in the finals also. The top finish of the day was Grace Meier’s 3rd place finish in the 100yd breaststroke with a time of 1:11.9. Then the 200yd Medley Relay team of Allison Graff, Meier, Megan Brown and Kylie Mongan were 7th in 2:02.65 and the 200yd Freestyle relay of Lindsay Williams, Emma Jensen, Brown and Mongan were 8th in 1:53.08. The 400yd Freestyle Relay team of Taylor Richardson, Jensen, Sami Lalone and Kennedy Tate were 10th in 4:27.06. Mongan was also 10th in the 100yd freestyle event with a time of :59.32 and Meier was 11th in the 200yd Individual Medley in 2:25.84. Lalone placed 12th in the 100yd breaststroke in 1:19.48 and Graff and Williams placed 12th and 14th respectively in the 100yd backstroke event with times of 1:11.0 and 1:12.5 after qualifying in 15th and 16th place.
They will have another meet Tuesday in Sioux City.
