Committee Discusses Possible Dog Park

The Mayor’s Advisory Committee for Park, Trails, and Urban Forest would like to see a dog park developed in Storm Lake.

Committee member Mary Beth Andrews says dog parks are very well used in other cities and are great for dogs to run off-leash. She says a dog park would need trees and a water source, and it would be good to have separate areas for large and small dogs. She said it would be best on the outskirts of town, and suggested Storm Lake may be able to collaborate with Lakeside on developing a dog park.

The committee discussed several possible locations… including green space at Frank Starr Park, the spoil site east of the golf course, and an area now used for community gardens east of the East Ninth ballfields.

The committee intends to continue exploring the idea.
