A conceptual plan for the new Russell Street Park in Storm Lake has been approved.
Thursday afternoon, the Mayor’s Advisory Committee for Park, Trails, and Urban Forest approved the plan… which will be used by the city council to approve funding for the park. However, city manager Keri Navratil says development of the park won’t happen all at once. She says the ground at the corner of East Fifth and Russell will be prepped and seeded, and will be open next year… with some amenities added each year, depending on how much the city can include in each year’s budget. She noted donations or fund-raising could be used to pay for some improvements, and the city will apply for grants.
Plans for the new neighborhood park include open space, a playground, a concrete court with basketball hoop, restrooms, and a picnic shelter.
The former Joyce’s Greenery site was purchased by the city with a grant from the DNR.
