Falcons Come Up Short in Manning

IKM Manning defeated OA-BCIG 21-13 Friday night to open 1A district 7 play.

The Wolves on the opening series of the game went 83 yards in 3:30.  Stephen Grimm’s 13 yard touchdown run on 4th and 2 made it 7-0.

Late in the 1st quarter, the Falcons tied it with a four-play 80-yard scoring drive, as Kaden Ladwig’s 53 yard touchdown pass to Ethan Mortensen made it 7-7.

After forcing a turnover on downs, OA-BCIG took only three plays to go 83 yards, and Chase Devitt ran 75 yards to the end zone, putting the Falcons up 13-7.  The lead would not last long though, as Carter Irlmeier ran the ensuing kickoff back 89 yards, putting the Wolves up 14-13, which was the halftime score.

Each team committed a turnover to start the 2nd half.  On IKM-Manning second drive of the 3rd quarter, they marched 85 yards in 14 plays, as Grimm on 4th and 4 scored on a five yard run.  The Falcons last two drives ended in an interception and a turnover on downs.  IKM-Manning ran out the final 2:26.

The Falcons two touchdown plays were the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Plays of the Game.  William Grote had a fumble recovery for the Falcons, and Quintin Cranston had an interception.  IKM-Manning had three takeaways.

Grimm ran for 149 yards on 26 carries.  Devitt had 16 rushes for 170 yards, and Ladwig threw for 101.  IKM-Manning outgained OA-BCIG unofficially 387 yards to 287.  The Wolves ran 23 more offensive plays than the Falcons did.

OA-BCIG (2-0, 0-1) will host Tri Center next week.  IKM-Manning (2-1, 1-0) will next visit Logan Magnolia.
