OA-BCIG avenged a lopsided loss to Westwood a season ago with a 21-6 victory in Sioux City Saturday night in the CNOS Pigskin Classic.
The Falcons broke through with 43 seconds left in the 1st quarter on a Chase Devitt 41-yard touchdown run to put a wrap on a drive that covered 64 yards in 2:24. The two-point try failed, leaving the score at 6-0, and it stayed that way at halftime.
An illegal touching call on a Westwood onside kick attempt to start the 2nd half gave OA-BCIG the ball at the Rebels 33-yard line. A nine-yard touchdown run by Devitt, followed by a two-point conversion run by Kaden Ladwig boosted the lead to 14-0 with 9:15 left in the 3rd quarter.
OA-BCIG’s defense made a critical stop on the opening play of the 4th quarter. On 4th and 3 from the Falcons five-yard line, Devitt brought down the ball-carrier for a four-yard loss to force the turnover on downs.
With 1:29 remaining, Jake Nieman put the final touches on a 47-yard scoring drive which lasted 5:56 with a nine-yard touchdown run, and William Grote tacked on the extra point. Westwood finally got on the board on a quarterback sneak with 38 seconds left, capping an 82-yard drive.
Devitt, the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the Game, unofficially rushed 22 times for 109 yards, and Ladwig threw for 55.
OA-BCIG will play their home-opener next Friday against Ridge View, with the Reynolds Trophy up for grabs. That game will be broadcast on Mix 101.7FM KAYL, and also video streamed on our website.
