Sioux Central was victorious Thursday night over Manson Northwest Webster 22-8 in the 5th annual Channel Seed Ag Bowl in Sioux Rapids.
The Rebels struck first with nine seconds remaining in the 1st quarter, as Ben Hargens capped off a seven-play 66-yard touchdown drive with a three-yard touchdown run. Jake Hanson’s two-point conversion pass to Chase Jessen put Sioux Central up 8-0.
Late in the 1st half, Sioux Central put together a masterful 16-play, 97-yard touchdown drive, which covered 7:21, as Hanson ran in the endzone from four yards out, and Jake Gasperi’s two-point run made the score 16-0 with a 1:45 to go in the 2nd quarter, and it stayed that way at halftime.
A lightning delay in the middle of the 3rd quarter halted play for 30 minutes. Soon after play resumed, the Rebels went on another touchdown march, which covered 12 plays and 53 yards. Hargens two-yard run pushed the lead to 22-0 with 10:53 to go in the 4th quarter.
The Cougars got their lone score with 3:11 remaining, as Reed Steinberg’s 24-yard run cultimated a nine-play, 61 yard possession, and Steinberg followed with a two-point conversion run.
Hargens and Carter Beckman, the Offensive and Defensive MVP’s of the game, also shared the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the Game. Hargens rushed for 174 yards on 38 carries, and two touchdowns. Gasperi ran for 87 yards, and Hanson added 78 on the ground. Sioux Central had 356 yards of offensive.
Manson Northwest Webster was held to 164 yards offensively. Steinberg led in rushing with 52 yards, and Derek Girard threw for 56.
Sioux Central (1-0) will host Alta-Aurelia next Friday, September 1st. Manson Northwest Webster (0-1) will play in Week 2 on September 1st against Fort Dodge St. Edmond.
