The Newell Fonda baseball team scored 5 unanswered runs in their 5-2 win over Sioux Central on Thursday night in Fonda.
The Rebels got an RBI single from Zach Lundquist in the 1st, and Lundquist drove in another run in the 3rd on a sacrifice fly.
The Mustangs retaliated in their half of the 3rd, loading the bases to start the inning on 2 walks and a single. They wound up getting 3 runs after a groundout and an error. Newell Fonda tacked on 2 more runs in the 5th.
The Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the Game, Nate Pedersen, was the winning pitching, going 6 1/3 innings, throwing a 5-hitter with 12 strikeouts. Cody Voss finished up on the mound, and with the tying run at the plate, got a flyout to right-center, which was caught by Pedersen, who had shifted to center after the pitching change.
Austin Gerdes, Bryce Coppock, and Reed Kruse each had an RBI for Newell Fonda.
Sioux Central’s Mac Prior went the distance on the hill, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 7.
Newell Fonda goes to 13-7 overall, and 5-4 in the Twin Lakes Conference. The Rebels fall for the first time in TLC games, ending up a 9-1, and are now 12-7 overall.
