Hearing On City Budget Set For March 6

A public hearing on the proposed 2017-18 Storm Lake city budget will be held during the city council meeting on March sixth.

Finance director Brian Oakleaf says two changes were made from the budget presented earlier this month. Funding for Storm Lake United will be increase by 12-thousand dollars from the proposed 30-thousand dollars. During the current budget, Storm Lake United received 58-thousand and the council asked for a smaller reduction. Oakleaf says the funds will come from franchise fees.

The budget also calls for an increase in roadway maintenance, including 70-thousand dollars in capital replacements, upgrades, and repairs, 46-thousand for signs and signals, and 366-thousand dollars for major street projects. Oakleaf says that’s an increase of 416-thousand from the current budget.

The budget calls for a tax asking of $14.25 per thousand dollar valuation, down from the present $14.59.
