Ridge View beat River Valley 81-21 in a battle of Western Valley Conference rivals in the opening round of 1A boys basketball districts on Monday night.
The Raptors rolled from the get go, scoring 22 straight to start the game. There was no cooling off Jaxon Franken, knocking down ten of the team’s 13 threes, and 33 points in all, earning the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the Game. Jacob Tokheim and Colton Wunschel each had 14.
With their third win of the season over the Wolverines, Ridge View is now 9-12, and move on to the district quarterfinals to play at LeMars Gehlen on Thursday night at 7pm. River Valley ends at 1-19.
In the second game of the Sioux Rapids double-header, Sioux Central grinded out a 54-45 win over MMC-RU.
Sioux Central trailed by seven early on, but came to to tie it at 9-9 after Hunter Decker hit a three in the final seconds of the 1st quarter, and the Rebels never trailed after that. Sioux Central took the lead for good midway in the 2nd quarter, and led 23-15 at the half.
MMC-RU cut the lead to four during the 3rd, but Sioux Central got the lead to 34-27 entering the 4th. The lead got to as much as 13 from there, and the Royals could get no closer than five.
Mac Prior led the Rebels with 15, and Brady Rusk had 14, all in the 2nd half. They shared the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the Game. Jake Hanson added 10.
Hunter Tentinger had a game-high 24 for MMC-RU, as their season ends at 3-19.
Sioux Central (6-16) will play Thursday at 7pm in a district quarterfinal at Remsen St. Mary’s.
