A Newell teen was taken into custody following a pursuit by law enforcement Friday night.
Buena Vista County sheriff Kory Elston says a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for driving 85 in a 55 zone at 520th Street and M-54, southwest of Albert City. The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit began, mainly on rural gravel roads with speeds over 90.
During the pursuit, the offender… 18-year-old Aaron Mandernach… and a deputy collided. The pursuit continued for about 40 minutes. The pursuit ended when a state trooper used an immobilization technique to stop the vehicle.
Mandernach was charged with eluding, an aggravated misdemeanor… and numerous traffic violations, including stop sign violations, reckless driving, careless driving, failing to yield to emergency vehicles, and speed violations, all simple misdemeanors.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the state patrol, and the Sac, Pocahontas, and Clay County Sheriff’s Offices. No injuries were reported… and there was only minor damage to the vehicles involved.
