There have been some problems in Buena Vista County with farmers loading semis with grain while parked on gravel roads.
County engineer Bret Wilkinson says there have been several reports of loading the semis from grain carts, which are well over the 28-thousand pound weight limit, and they are also blocking the road. Wilkinson said they possibly could also damage the road.
Wilkinson says if the DOT catches them, there’s no warning… they would face thousands of dollars in fines for illegally parked on the road and over weight. He says the county isn’t trying to create a hardship during harvest, but they would like people to try to follow the law… noting most farmers load semis while still in the field.
