Storm Lake senior Dylan Cavanaugh ended his high school cross country career on a high note, finishing 5th in the 3A boys state race at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge. Cavanaugh’s time was 16:28.4. The winning time was 16:02.6. Cavanaugh placed 9th at state a year ago in 16:47.4.
In Class 2A, the Pocahontas Area/Laurens Marathon girls were at state for the 4th year in a row, and ended up 6th in the team standings. PAC-LM had one medal recipient, as junior Jill Vonnahme wound up in 13th place in 19:49.3. Grace Meyer was next in line for the Indians with a 22nd place finish in 20:09.9.
In the 2A boys race, South Central Calhoun sophomore Spencer Moon earned a medal by placing 4th in 16:29.8.
In 1A girls, the Alta Aurelia team finished 15th, as they were making their 2nd trip to state in a row. The Warriors were led by junior Alicia Turnquist, who ended up 49th in 21:22.0. OA-BCIG had two sophomore representatives, including Madison Schiernbeck, who finished 31st in 20:57.9, and Alyssa Mason was 84th in 22:26.1. Ridge View freshman Katlyn Wiese checked in 37th in 21:02.9.
The 1A boys field included Sioux Central sophomore Dawson Hatch, who placed 47th in a time of 17:47.7.
