With the Class A District 2 runner-up playoff spot hanging in the balance in Holstein, South O’Brien’s running attack carried them to a 42-8 win over Ridge View in the regular season finale.
Wolverines quarterback Carson Louscher rushed for five touchdowns, including four in the 1st half, as South O’Brien built a 27-0 halftime lead. Running back Sam Nelson piled up 200 yards on the ground and a touchdown. The Wolverines had 288 total yards, including 273 rushing. Ridge View had 186 yards in the game.
The Raptors only score came early in the 3rd quarter, as a three play, 66 yard drive was capped off with the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the Game, a 31-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Wingert to Jake Mitchell. Wingert followed that with a two-point conversion run. Wingert threw for 126 yards in the game, and rushed for 43.
Ridge View turned the ball over four times, compared to none against South O’Brien.
The Wolverines are playoff-bound with a 6-3 overall record, and finish 5-1 in the district.
Ridge View finishes 5-4, 4-3. The Raptors had ten seniors suit up for the final time, including Wingert, Ryan McGuire, Juan Nava, Caden Wandrey, Erik Major, Gus Leonard, Jack Mentzer, Evan Else, Cole Degen, and Colton Wunschel.
