Methodist Manor Project

Construction should begin next week on a major expansion project at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

CEO Nick Landgraf says a new three-story, 85 room, 93 bed skilled nursing facility will be built. The project has a projected cost of 28-and-a-half million dollars… and is being financed through a US Department of Agriculture Rural Development loan. He says just last Friday, they received approval from the USDA.

Landgraf says the ceremonial groundbreaking was held Wednesday… but some site work has already started. He says they plan to begin working on footings next week. “If the weather cooperates, we’re looking at the new building itself being constructed in about a year and a half. After that, there will be a second phase where some of the existing facility would be demolished, and then parking and landscaping would be put in… and the front entry for the new building as well.”

They already have a good idea of what the new resident rooms will look like. Landgraf says a mock up room was set up in a storage area… which he says has been “worth its weight in gold” in allowing them to look at products to be used in the new rooms, tweeking dimensions, and demonstrating it to prospective residents.
