Updates were to the parking and playground area at Storm Lake St. Mary’s recently.
Thanks to the generosity of volunteer labor, the St. Mary’s Foundation and a memorial gift from the Brent VanderWal family, Storm Lake St. Mary’s School students have a safer area for playground and physical education activities. The combination playground and parking area had a mixture of asphalt and concrete surfaces between the school, convent and rectory, which had fallen into disrepair. Interest earned from gifts to the St. Mary’s Foundation endowment was used to fund new paving for the area as well as the VanderWal gift. Also, labor for removal, paving and landscaping by Andy Goettsch, Larry Miller, Ted Lenhart, Rae Thompson, Ross Parcel, and Duane Magnussen. Above, St. Mary’s High School students had an outdoor physical education class and the kindergarten class also had recess outside on a cool September 2 morning.
