Storm Lake public teachers will be getting a contract increase of just over four percent for next school year.
During a special meeting of the Storm Lake school board Wednesday morning, the board approved the contract between the district and the Storm Lake Education Association. Superintendent Carl Turner says the teachers approved the settlement last Thursday. It calls for a total package increase of 4.1-percent at a cost to the district of 510-thousand dollars. The base teacher pay is $38,054… with a base of $32,732 used to determine supplemental pay contracts.
The school board initially proposed a 1.74-percent increase, which would have cost the district 216-thousand dollars. The education association’s initial proposal was for a 6.5-percent total package increase, at a cost of 808-thousand dollars. Turner noted the settlement is right in the middle.
