The Newell-Fonda football team flexed their muscles Friday night in a convincing 49-0 win over Colo-Nesco in the quarter-final round of the 8-player playoffs Friday night at Newell.
The #1 ranked Mustangs scored touchdowns on all six of their first half possessions building a 42-0 lead at the half. They then went on a 14-play 8-minute touchdown drive to begin the 2nd half for the last score of the game.
Newell-Fonda ran the ball 44 times for 298 yards led by Cole Wise who carried the ball 12 times for 158 yards and three touchdowns. Dustin Johnson had 11 carries for 76 yards and one score, he also caught a seven-yard TD pass, Jason Hess had 8 rushes for 41 yards and two scores and was 2 for 2 passing in the game.
The Mustang defense produced their 2nd shutout in the playoffs allowing only 185 yards in the game.
KAYL sports director Chris Boeckman had a chance to visit with Mustangs head coach Brian Wilken after the game.
The Mustangs are now 12-0 as their winning streak has reached 23 in a row. Colo-Nesco concludes the year at 9-3.
Newell-Fonda will now play Gilbertville-Don Bosco Thursday, November 12th at 9:06am in a rematch of last year’s thrilling quarter-final playoff game between the two teams which was won by the Mustangs. The game will be broadcast on Mix 101.7FM KAYL. The other semi-final game has Glidden-Ralston playing Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn.
