Iowa counties are grappling with upcoming changes in how Medicaid is administered in the state.
Buena Vista County case management administrator Alicia Gatzemeyer this week discussed the county’s options with the Board of Supervisors. She said the county could sign contracts with the private firms taking over managing the program… not sign contracts, but get reimbursements from them with the county’s case managers continuing on the job until the end of June… or end case management when the companies take over the first of the year. If that option is chosen, the county would likely keep the case managers for a couple of months to do county social work. The Supervisors are expected to make a decision in two weeks.
This week, the Sac County Supervisors also discussed the issue. Sac County case manager Kari Mussselman said it was becoming less and less feasible for a small county to continue the service. The Sac Board voted to discontinue the county case management service at the end of the year… and retain Musselman through January to complete the transition from county case management to a manage care
