On the morning of Wednesday, October 6, 2015, at approximately 8:58am, the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to the Buena Vista County Courthouse located at 215 East 5th Street in reference to an automated fire alarm.
Upon arrival of the fire fighters they were advised the alarm was activated as part of fire drill being conducted by maintenance staff.
There was no fire and no damage.
The fire department was on scene for approximately 10 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department and the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department.
On the evening of Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at approximately 9:11pm, the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to 421 Otsego Street in reference to a reported gas odor in the residence.
Upon arrival of fire fighters they entered the residence with gas monitoring equipment and detected no hazard.
Alliant Energy responded to the scene and further determined that no hazard existed.
An investigation determined that an overheated motor on a sump pump may have caused the odor.
The fire department was on scene for approximately 30 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department and Alliant Energy.
