Strong 2nd Half Lifts Poky

Pocahontas Area rattled off 26 straight points after falling behind 14-0 as they defeated Sioux Central 32-20 in Albert City.

Two long touchdowns runs by Mac Prior of 59 and 79 yards in the 1st quarter gave the Rebels a two-score lead.  Poky’s Tyler Case ran a 15 yard touchdown to make it 14-6, and that was the score at the half.  In the 2nd half, Ben Olson broke off two long touchdown runs of 42, and then 50 yards.  In between, Connor Schoening had a 6 yard touchdown run for the Indians.  The second Olson touchdown put Poky up 26-14 with just over five minutes remaining.  Caleb Anderson got the Rebels back in it with an 89 yard kickoff return for a touchdown.  The Indians responded with a 51 yard scoring drive, including a crucial 3rd and 9 completion for Schoening to Tanner Youngberg.  Case ran in the endzone from a yard out with under a minute left.

Youngberg also had two interceptions, and Sioux Central committed five turnovers in all, compared to none for the Indians.  Sioux Central’s Brady Rusk rushed for 101 yards, and Prior had 155.  Olson had 170 yards on the ground for Poky, and he and Youngberg shared the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Players of the Game.  Poky/LM outgained Sioux Central 434 yards to 275.  Sioux Central managed just 50 yards in the 2nd half.

Poky/LM hosts Algona Garrigan next Friday, while Sioux Central plays at North Union.
