Police Blotter

On the afternoon of Monday, March 16, 2015 at approximately 4:28pm the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to Smith Hall on the campus of Buena Vista University in reference to an automated fire alarm.
Upon arrival of fire fighters they determined that a system malfunction caused the alarm.There was no fire and no damage. The fire department was on scene for approximately 20 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department and the BVU Security Department.

On the morning of Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at approximately 11:24am the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to 1628 North Lake Avenue in reference to an automated fire alarm. Upon arrival of fire fighters it was determined that the alarm was caused by a contractor working on the alarm system.
There was no fire and no damage. The fire department was on scene for approximately 15 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department.

On the afternoon of Monday, March 16, 2015 at approximately 1:25pm the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Storm Lake Wal-Mart Store in reference to a theft.
Upon arrival of police they were advised by store staff that a Sierra Kracht, age 21 of Storm Lake allegedly attempted to leave the store without paying for approximately $25.00 in merchandise at which time she was detained.
Following an investigation police charged Kracht with Theft 5th Degree (simple misdemeanor). She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 bond.

On the afternoon of Monday, March 16, 2015 at approximately 5:00pm the Storm Lake Police Department took a report in reference to a harassment. Police were advised that a person identified as George Diaz Jr., age 19 of Storm Lake allegedly sent rude and threatening messages to another party.
Following an investigation police responded to Diaz’s residence at approximately 6:30am this morning and arrested Diaz. Diaz was charged with Harassment 3rd Degree (simple misdemeanor). He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 bond.

On the evening of Monday, March 16, 2015, at approximately 7:55pm, the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Storm Lake Wal-Mart Store on Lake Avenue, in reference to a theft. Upon arrival of police they met with store staff, alleged that a Dawn James, age 61, of Storm Lake, concealed approximately $64.00 in merchandise on her person, and attempted to leave the store without paying for the items.
Following an investigation police arrested James, who was detained by store staff and charged her with Theft 5th Degree (simple misdemeanor). She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 bond.

On the evening of Monday, March 16, 2015, at approximately 6:40pm, the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in reference to a disturbance.
Upon arrival police were directed to a person in the lobby area at the medical center who allegedly was yelling and making abusive gestures towards staff as well as throwing food.
Police made contact with the person and identified him as Juan Palomarez, age 38, of Storm Lake.
Following an investigation police arrested Palomarez and charged him with Disorderly Conduct (simple misdemeanor). He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 bond.
No injuries were reported.
