Plans to replace a water main were approved Monday afternoon by the Storm Lake city council.
Water plant superintendent Todd Allen says 26-hundred feet of water main under West Milwaukee will be replaced with a larger line running in the existing right-of-way. The line will be installed ahead of the West Milwaukee widening project. He says in the event there are problems in the future, the new road would not have to be disturbed.
The project is estimated to cost 270-thousand dollars, including two alternates. Bids will be opened on March 24th.
City manager Jim Patrick says there have been a lot of water main breaks in that area… and when putting in a new road, it makes sense to put in the new line. The present line is six-inches, and the new line will be eight-inches. Patrick says bigger is better for fire protection and water quality.
