Police Blotter

On the afternoon of Sunday, March 1, 2015, at approximately 5:56pm, the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to South School located at 310 Cayuga Street, in reference to an automated fire alarm.
Upon arrival of fire fighters, they determined that an alarm station was pulled by a child and there was no fire or damage. The Fire Department was on scene for approximately 15 minutes, and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department.

On the evening of Friday, February 27, 2015, at approximately 7:10pm, the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Storm Lake Wal-Mart Store in reference to a theft.
Upon arrival police met with store staff who alleged that a Naran Michael Sok, age 59, of Storm Lake allegedly attempted to steal approximately $6.00 in merchandise from the store. Following an investigation police arrested Sok at the store and charged him with Theft 5th Degree (simple misdemeanor). He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 bond.

On the evening of Friday, February 27, 2015, at approximately 8:56pm, the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Storm Lake Wal-Mart Store in reference to a theft.
Upon arrival police viewed store video of an adult female allegedly removing a $15.00 necklace from the store without purchasing it. Police identified the suspect, who had departed from the store, as Carrie Johnson, age 38, of Schleswig, IA. On Sunday evening, March 1, 2015, at approximately 11:0pm, Storm Lake Police arrested Johnson at the police station and charged her with Theft 5th Degree (simple misdemeanor). She was processed and released pending a court date.

On the evening of Saturday, February 28, 2015, at approximately 7:24pm, the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Storm Lake Wal-Mart Store in reference to a theft.
Upon arrival of police they met with store staff who alleged that a 16 year old, male, of Storm Lake, attempted to leave the store with approximately $10.00 in merchandise without purchasing the item. Following an investigation police arrested the juvenile male and charged him with Theft 5th Degree (simple misdemeanor). He was processed and released to a parent pending a court date. The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.

On the morning of Sunday, March 1, 2015, at approximately 12:10am, the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 401 Cayuga Street, in reference to a disturbance in progress on the third floor of the apartment complex.
Upon arrival police they spoke to witnesses and allege that a Larry Collings, age 61, and Lacresha Dixon, age 28, both of Storm Lake, engaged in an argument in the hallway over Collins being too loud. Collins and Dixon engaged in a fight and were separated by witnesses.
Following an investigation police arrested Dixon and charged her with Disorderly Conduct (simple misdemeanor). She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 bond. Collins was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication (both simple misdemeanors). He was booked into the county jail on a $600.00 bond.

On the morning of Sunday, March 1, 2015, at approximately 5:06am, the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the campus of Buena Vista University in reference to a trespass.
Upon arrival police met with campus security who reported that two person identified as Brady Hotovec, age 20, of Pocahontas, IA, and Justin Dasilva, age 20, of Laurens, IA, had previously been told by security to leave the campus and allegedly did not do so and re-entered Briscoe Hall.
Police and security located the two in Briscoe Hall and they were arrested without incident. Storm Lake Police charged Hotovec and Dasilva both with Criminal Trespass (simple misdemeanor). Both men were booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 bond each. The Storm Lake Police Department was assisted by the BVU Security Department.

On the afternoon of Sunday, March 1, 2015, at approximately 1:40pm, the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the 800 block of Elmwood Drive, in reference to a disturbance in progress.
Upon arrival of police they learned that several people went to a residence located at 811 Elmwood Drive, where a conflict and disturbance allegedly ensued. Witnesses told police that three people were outside of the home yelling and shouting obscenities.
Police arrested the following at the scene:
Christopher Taylor, age 26, of Storm Lake
Lashun Bagsby, age 45, of Storm Lake
17 year old, male, of Storm Lake
All three were charged with Disorderly Conduct (simple misdemeanor). Taylor and Bagsby were booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 bond each. The 17 year old, male, was processed and released to a family member pending a court date in Juvenile Court. No injuries were reported.

All defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty.
