Arrests At SL Middle School Basketball Tournament

Three arrests were made after Storm Lake police Saturday morning were dispatched to investigate a disturbance at the Storm Lake Middle School where a youth basketball tournament was underway.

Responding officers were told at the conclusion of one of the youth basketball games at the Middle School there was allegedly a heated exchange between two coaches and some fans on the basketball court. Coaches from Sioux City and LeMars youth teams allegedly squared off and had to be separated. One parent reportedly removed his sweatshirt and began shouting profanities.

Police intervened, seized video of the incident and charged 39-year-old Trent Gosch and 33-year-old Richard Semple, both of Sioux City… and 62-year-old Steven Stratmeir of LeMars… with disorderly conduct, a simple misdemeanor. All three were jailed on 300-dollars bond. No injuries were reported.

On Saturday afternoon police were again asked to stand by at the Storm Lake Middle School due to unruly fans at another youth tournament basketball game. Police stood by and no arrests were made.
