My name is Brady Dicks, and I am the President of the Newell-Fonda FFA Chapter for this year. I’ve been involved with FFA since my freshman year. I went to State two years ago on an Ag Issues Team that debated gun control. Last year, I went to State Convention to receive my Iowa Degree. My favorite part about FFA is being able to attend State Convention. It takes a lot of hard work to get there, and the whole atmosphere down there makes it worth while. At Newell-Fonda, National FFA Week means an awesome week of school! We plan events each day (dress up days, teach elementary kids about ag day, etc). We also do a Teacher Appreciation Meal where we bring grills and grill pork burgers for all the staff. The best part of the week is the Ag Olympics Day. We design an obstacle course with ag related things and form teams to attempt to complete the course. We make a trophy out of mostly junk, but we make it look cool and give it to the winner! For people who don’t know much about FFA at Newell-Fonda, we go to Ag related activities, compete in Ag related contests, attend State Convention, have an FFA Christmas Party (complete with an ugly sweater contest), and we sell meat, cheese, and fruit for our fundraiser every year. It’s a great time, and all of these things help us develop skills that we will need after our education is done.
