Coaches all across America, at every level, preach the importance of free throws. Last night a chance from the charity stripe with zeros on the clock was the difference as East Sac County held on for the win against Ridge View 40-39.
When the horn sounded signaling what everyone thought was the end of the game, the East Sac fan base erupted and the bench cleared. However, at center court stood an official with one hand in the air signaling that a foul had occurred on the final play for Ridge View. Just 10 seconds before East Sac had committed their 6th team foul. This final foul would give Ridge View a 1 + 1 attempt with nothing left on the clock. The Raptors had the final chance to change the outcome. Zach Tokheim’s free throw attempt rolled in and out leaving East Sac County with the upset win.
East Sac jumped out to an early first quarter lead at 14-9. That same lead was erased by a 14-2 Ridge View run over the last 5:30 of the 2nd quarter. At the half way point Ridge View was holding a hard fought 26-22 lead. Halfway through the 3rd quarter Ridge View had their largest lead at 33-25. However, things quickly changed as East Sac closed the quarter on an 8-0 run to tie it at 33.
Unfortunately for Ridge View…the 4th quarter was ice cold as the offense couldn’t get shots to fall and East Sac was able to hold on for the 40-39 win.
East Sac’s Michael Halbur had a game high 17 points while Tokheim lead the way for Ridge View with 11.
The Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Play of the Game honor went to East Sac’s Riley Paysen after he showed his never quit attitude with a flying tip in at the buzzer to end the 1st quarter.
