The Newell-Fonda girls basketball team advanced to a regional final thanks to a 62-37 win over Algona-Garrigan Friday night at Newell. The Mustangs played very well jumping out to an 11-0 lead after three minutes, scoring 23 first quarter points and running away from the Golden Bears.
Briana Wells led the charge offensively knocking down four 3’s and scoring a game high 19 points. Erin Gerke chipped in with 12, and Hailey Falline added ten.
Garrigan was led by Johanna Vaske’s 17. The Golden Bears finish the year 17-7.
The 7th ranked Mustangs are now 19-4 and will play 5th ranked Turkey Valley Monday night at Clarion, with the winner going to the state tourney which begins Monday, March 2nd in Des Moines.
This is the 7th straight year that the Mustang girls basketball team has reached the regional final. They won their regional final in four of the past six seasons.
