The 2nd ranked Pocahontas Area girls basketball team jumped out to a 34-6 lead after the 1st quarter and never looked back in an 86-53 win over South Hardin Wednesday in a 3A region semifinal in Pocahontas.
South Hardin bounced back in the 2nd quarter to cut the Indians lead to 48-27 at the half, getting as close as 15 early in the 3rd, but the Indians got it to a running clock situation before all was said and done.
Faith Meyer scored the first 9 Poky points on three 3’s, ending up with six of Poky’s 11 3’s and 22 points. Elle Ruffridge had a game-high 27, and Janie Brinkman added 12.
South Hardin’s season ends at 15-7. Pocahontas Area is now 22-1, and will play in a region final on Saturday night at 7pm in Webster City against Roland Story, who won at Gilbert in the other semifinal 40-38. Saturday night’s game will be broadcast on Mix 101.7FM KAYL.
