The Sioux Central girls basketball team fought back from a double-digit deficit at halftime, but Okoboji’s big 4th quarter helped them prevail 67-56 in a 2A region quarterfinal. Okoboji’s pressure got to the Rebels early on, as the Pioneers got off to a 10-0 lead. The Rebels trailed by double-figures for much of the 1st half, were down by as many as 14, and were down 29-19 at halftime. Sioux Central started the 3rd quarter on a 7-0 run, and eventually tied the game 36-36. Sioux Central was never able to get the lead though, and the Pioneers carried a 42-41 lead into the 4th quarter. Okoboji started the 4th quarter on a 13-2 run to put the game away. Nicole Hamilton led the Rebels with 24 points. Nicole Scharn and MacKenzie Keune each hit two 3’s, as Scharn finished with 13 points, and Keune had 12. Megan Peschong poured in 34 for the Pioneers. Sioux Central’s three seniors include Hamilton, Sara Eddie, and Mikayla Landsness. The Rebels finished at 11-12, while Okoboji (18-4) will host Hartley Melvin Sanborn Friday in a region semifinal.
