On the afternoon of Friday, February 13, 2015, at approximately 1:13pm, the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to 511 East 5th Street, in reference to smoke coming from a vehicle.
Upon arrival of fire fighters the smoke had subsided and fire fighters determined that the smoke was caused by an electrical issue. Fire fighters disconnected the vehicles battery.There was no damage.
The vehicle is described as a 1994 Toyota pickup truck. It is owned by Jimmy Sayarath of Storm Lake.
The Fire Department was on scene for approximately 15 minutes, and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department.

On the afternoon of Saturday, February 14, 2015, at approximately 1:12pm, the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to Liberty Hall on the campus of Buena Vista University in reference to an automated fire alarm.
Upon arrival of fire fighters they determined the alarm was caused by smoke from burnt food on the third floor. There was no fire and no damage.
The Fire Department was on scene for approximately 15 minutes, and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department and the BVU Security Department.

On the afternoon of Friday, February 13, 2015, at approximately 2:00pm, the Storm Lake Police Department took a report at the Storm Lake Middle School in reference to a fight, which had occurred previously on a school bus.
Police were advised that on February 9, 2015, two 11 year old males, of Storm Lake allegedly engaged in a fight on a school bus at approximately 5:45pm, in the afternoon. The two juveniles were separated by the bus driver.
Following an investigation police charged both juvenile males with Disorderly Conduct (simple misdemeanor). They were processed and released to an adult pending a court date. No injuries were reported.
The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.

On the morning of Friday, February 13, 2015, at approximately 10:51am, the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 1726 East Milwaukee Avenue, in reference to a theft.
Upon arrival police met with the reporting party who advised that tenants at the apartment complex had been experiencing thefts of mail from mailboxes in the complex.
Following an investigation police allege that a tenant in apartment #21 identified as James Huseman, age 61 of Storm Lake, was responsible for the thefts. Police recovered stolen mail from Huseman’s apartment.
Police subsequently charged Huseman with Theft 5th Degree (simple misdemeanor). He was processed and released pending a court date.

On the morning of February 10, 2015, the Storm Lake Police Department took a report at the Tyson Foods plant of a belated assault.
Police were told that an adult woman had allegedly been physically assaulted by a co-worker on February 9, 2015, at approximately 9:30am. The suspect was identified as Leticia Mendoza, age 39 of Storm Lake.

Police conducted an investigation and on the morning of Friday, February 13, 2015, at approximately 7:37am, police located Mendoza at 1108 West 6th Street, where she was arrested without incident.
Police charged Mendoza with Assault (simple misdemeanor). She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 bond.

On the evening of Sunday, February 15, 2015, at approximately 9:31pm, the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to Brewster’s Bar located at 225 East Railroad Street, in reference to several intoxicated patrons.
Upon arrival police met with staff who alleged that several patrons had been disallowed service to due to their state of intoxication and the patrons allegedly became belligerent towards the bartender.
Police made contact with Morgan Lipai, age 28, Rick Lipai, age 25, and BJ John, age 22, all of Storm Lake, and allege all three were intoxicated.
Police arrested all three men and charged them with Public Intoxication (simple misdemeanor). They were all three booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 bond each.

All defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty.
