Sioux Central girls defeat Alta Aurelia for Third Time

The Sioux Central girls basketball team won at Alta Aurelia 51-42 Saturday night in a 2A Region opener.  It’s the third Rebels win over the Warriors this season, following a pair of two-point regular season wins.  The game was tied at 12 after the 1st quarter.  Alta Aurelia built a four-point lead during the 2nd quarter, but the Rebels answered and went up 28-22 at the half, quickly stretching the lead to ten.  The Warriors then closed within five, but that was as close as they got, as the Rebels went on a 15-3 run during the rest of the 3rd, and into the 4th quarter, to stretch the lead to as big at 17.  Nicole Hamilton led Sioux Central with 14, followed by Nicole Scharn with 11, including three 3’s.  Micah Barnes led the Warriors with 21, followed by Lily Peterson with 10.  Alta Aurelia’s season is over with a record of 9-12.  The Warriors two seniors are Jenna Snyder and Alicia Campuzano.  Sioux Central is now 11-11, and the Rebels will play in a 2A Region Quarterfinal in Milford on Tuesday against Okoboji.  The game at 7pm will be broadcast on Mix 101.7FM KAYL.
