The Buena Vista County Supervisors Tuesday morning approved a three-percent pay increase for county employees for the fiscal year beginning July first.
The County Compensation Board had recommended a four-percent hike for elected officials… but the Supervisors cut that equally to three-percent… which also applies to non-elected officials and employees. The Supervisors also approved some changes in health insurance that will raise the deductibles and co-pays slightly, saving the county 62-thousand dollars.
Supervisors chair Dale Arends noted the increased cost of health insurance and the pay raise will cost the county about 300-thousand dollars. Supervisor Paul Merten said he thinks there will be some bigger issues with the county budget the next two years… and suggested they could be looking at zero raises in the following year.
The Supervisors also set Tuesday, March tenth at 9:00 a.m. for the public hearing on the fiscal year 2015-16 county budget. Merten noted if someone wants to comment on the budget, they need to attend the hearing or submit their comments in writing to the Supervisors.
