The Storm Lake city council this week approved a resolution asking the Iowa Legislature to support the funding of the Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund.
Mayor Jon Kruse… who’s been a member of the committee that drafted the trust fund… told the council it was determined the state has unmet natural resource needs of 150-million dollars a year. He says voters in 2010 passed the Constitutional Amendment that created the Trust Fund, and polling in 2014 continues to show a high level of support for Funding the Trust.
The trust fund would be funded the next time the state sales tax is raised… receiving three-eights of one percent of the tax. Kruse notes Storm Lake uses state natural resource funding, such as DNR funding of the lake dredging and for watershed work.
